Gay airmen speak out

Airmen who have lived under the “don’t ask, don’t tell” are starting to talk about living in secret. This video shows Staff Sgt. Jonathan Mills, editor of Outserve Magazine, and a master sergeant taking turns reading an essay about the realities of being gay in the military.

“Thanking for making sure my uniform is squared away when I’m heading to another military function without you,” the master sergeant reads. “Thank you for knowing that I wished it would have been you that pinned on my new rank. … Thank you for understanding that I have to say goodby to you in the car because you could not attend the unit’s farewell.”
