New Chief of Staff’s first reading list released

Gen. Mark Welsh III has released his first reading list, which also includes films and, for the first time, TED talks in  a fancy new website.

“This year’s CSAF Reading List features writings, movies, music, art, and photography that highlight our heritage and fighting spirit, as well as encourage innovation and forward thinking,” Welsh said in a statement announcing the list. “Take a look at the list and find something that grabs your attention.”

The books in the list this year are:

  • Bert Frandsen:  “Hat in the Ring: The Birth of American Air Power in the Great War”
  • Beryl Markham: “West with the Night”
  • David Hoffman : “The Dead Hand: The Untold Story of the Cold War Arms Race and Its Dangerous Legacy”
  • Daniel Ford : “Flying Tigers: Claire Chennault and His American Volunteers, 1941-1942”
  • Lee Ellis: “Leading With Honor”
  • Gayle Lemmon: “Dressmaker of Khair Khana”
  • Anna Simons, Joe McGraw, and Duane Lauchengco: “The Sovereignty Solution”
  • Col. Wolfgang Samuel:  “I Always Wanted to Fly: America’s Cold War Airmen”
  • Chris Dubbs and Emeline Paat-Dahlstrom: “Realizing Tomorrow: The Path to Private Spaceflight”
