They should ask her why she didn’t make the new Air Force Special Duty Ribbon retroactive. I spend six years in a special duty because senior leaders said it would enhance my career development. (Force shaping and involuntary extension factored into my special duty) While personally it was a good experience, it stifled my promotion; hence setting me back compared to my peers who did not serve in a special duty capacity. Not making a non-WAPS point ribbon retroactive is simply withholding formal recognition which was at least earned (if it is being awarded to those currently serving in any of the special duty career fields). I think the SECAF should reconsider.
