Youtube user telin21 uploaded this video of her 2-year-old daughter reacting to a pre-recorded video of her dad, who had left for two-months for Air Force basic training in Texas. It is ridiculously cute, and going viral. Uploaded yesterday, the video already has more than 120,000 views. From the description: Our daughter didn’t understand him leaving or how long he’d be gone, or if he’d come back. She’s so young and I didn’t want her to think he just vanished. Prior to his departure, he recorded several videos of him talking with her, reading to her, making silly faces,…

Well it’s about that time again: Time to get pumped up for the Air Force-Navy football showdown this weekend. Last year’s game saw Air Force beating Navy 14-6. It was preceded by a classic spirit video. It’s an elaborate production for a group of cadets. How and why did they have the time to choreograph a four-minute dance video? Who knows. But in the spirit of the video and the weekend’s battle royal, Go Air Force, Beat Navy.

Airmen who have lived under the “don’t ask, don’t tell” are starting to talk about living in secret. This video shows Staff Sgt. Jonathan Mills, editor of Outserve Magazine, and a master sergeant taking turns reading an essay about the realities of being gay in the military. “Thanking for making sure my uniform is squared away when I’m heading to another military function without you,” the master sergeant reads. “Thank you for knowing that I wished it would have been you that pinned on my new rank. … Thank you for understanding that I have to say goodby to you…

The first day of AFA has come and gone. And while gloom prevails in the era of slashing budgets — and let me tell you, the swag at the various convention exhibits has been seriously lacking — the message from higher-ups is that all this talk about “everything on the table” is starting to freak people out. It may be time to rewrite the austerity talking points. Secretary Michael Donley kicked things off in his keynote. “While it would benefit no one to downplay the hard choices that confront us,” he said, “neither should we paint a picture that is…

A lot of people may not understand that special operators such as SEALs, Delta Force and controllers don’t grow their hair out and wear long shaggy beards because it’s cool or because they don’t care about being military. It’s because in the broad scheme of their mission, personal grooming sometimes has to take a back seat. And there is an element of blending with the local populace who they are often training or working with. This TAC-P is taking the time, though, and I think that’s worth noting. The photographer, by the way, is one of the highest regarded photographers…

Today Air Force Chief Gen. Norton Schwartz, Secretary Michael Donley and Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James Roy released the following statement on the upcoming 10-year anniversary of terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001: September 11, 2011, marks the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 innocent people — at the World Trade Center; at Shanksville, Pa.; and at the Pentagon — and affected the lives of countless others across our great country and beyond. In all, 90 countries lost citizens, and people the world over would condemn these acts of terrorism. This…

Kids always get excited when they see big gift-wrapped boxes with their names on them. But no matter how big or extravagant the gift, they always seem to get tired of playing with it at some point. Well, this little guy got a present that won’t be so quickly discarded and one he won’t forget, thanks to YouTube.

Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., has had a full-on cat drama this week, according to an Air Force News story. Brig. Gen.  (Dr.) Kory Cornum, 81st Medical Group commander, parked his staff car by the hospital while he was on TDY, only to have it become the de facto residence of a family of cats: momma and her kittens. The cat family was noticed by a staff member who saw one of the kittens staring at him from the grill of the general’s car as he reported work. The staff called pest control to round up the kittens — momma…

The men and women of the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron have a hectic job. We caught up with the director of operation for the Hurricane Hunters, Lt. Col. Sean Pierce, via telephone yesterday and he told us about the dizzying op-tempo, the long hours and the dangerous flights through the massive weather systems that give the unit its name. He also stood up for the National Hurricane Center’s forecast of the recent Hurricane Irene, which devastated communities across the East Coast, that some have said were overblown. Pierce said that decision makers were given accurate and timely information to make the…

Capt. Henry Charles Albert David Windsor, better known as Great Britain’s Prince Harry, may be coming to an Air Force Base near you. You don’t have to be teenage girl to get excited about this heartthrob — although, ladies, he is single — because he’s not just another pretty face. He’s among world’s the most famous veterans of the ISAF mission in Afghanistan. And he’s heading back. The Telegraph reported earlier this summer that the prince, a captain in the British Army Air Corps, is heading back to the ‘Stan as an Apache attack helicopter pilot — no easy job.…
