UPDATE 6/24: Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force James Cody took to Facebook this afternoon to address this draft form, which he said is one of the first mockups created two years ago. “We’re thankful for the comments, feedback and dialogue that’s taken place, but keep in mind…that version is two years old,” Cody wrote. “While some of the elements remain in our most current draft — which AFPC and A1 teams are sharing with Airmen during the in-person roadshow briefs — much of the form has since changed.” ORIGINAL POST: One of the last remaining components of the…

Air Force Times on March 12 received an inquiry from an officer who has been selected for promotion and was expecting to pin on his new rank in the next month or two, but said there was a problem: The Air Force had not yet released promotion increments saying how many airmen would be able to pin on to major, lieutenant colonel and colonel on April 1. Those increments, the officer said, are usually released 40 days before the pin-on dates, which are the first of every month. But with April 1 just three weeks away, the officer said, several…
Looking to 2014, airmen can expect further force cuts, changes to how they are evaluated and new opportunities in career fields such as cyber security. This week’s Air Force Times lays out the 15 things airmen need to know about what to expect in the coming year. One thing airmen should definitely expect is the Air Force to continue to get smaller under budget pressure next year. Toward that end, airmen will be told Jan. 6 if they will be considered by the service’s first Quality Force Review, which will look at separating subpar enlisted airmen. You can read more…

As we reported last week, the Air Force is mulling over its current practice of awarding promotion points based on how long airmen have been in the service and in their current rank, and whether it should continue to do so. Air Force Times would like to hear from you on this issue. Should time in grade and time in service be scrapped, saved, or reduced in importance? Why do you think so? E-mail Jeff Schogol to share your thoughts. If you’d like your comments to remain anonymous, that’s fine.

A new petition to the White House is asking President Obama to give retired Brig. Gen. Chuck Yeager his second star. Yeager is best known as the first human being to travel faster than the speed of sound as a test pilot in October 1947. He was featured prominently in the book and movie “The Right Stuff.” “General Yeager at no time in his career ever sought personnel gain in the military,” the petition says.”He stepped up time after time, and performed the mission as required.” Retired Master Sgt. Ronald Enriquez started the petition because he feels Yeager is due…
