If this newly-minted major rises through the next three ranks as fast as he did the last three, he’ll pin on his first star next March. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Welsh presided over Goldie’s “commissioning” just eight months ago at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. There, the 4-year-old Golden retriever is a beloved member of the therapy dog program, visiting service members undergoing rehabilitation. On Nov. 12, the general and the dog crossed paths again, this time at the Pentagon, where Welsh promoted Goldie from second lieutenant to major. “It’s a rather fast…

But by nightfall, another commemoration ceremony was gathering — 50 service members joined together to give each rep, each lunge, each workout move in honor of the victims who died 13 years ago.  Army Staff Sgt. River Mitchell,  a chef in the secretary of defense mess at the Pentagon, planned the workout of the day — or  “9/11 Tribute WOD” —  so that his fellow comrades could test their strength on behalf of the fallen in a unique way,…

The cemetery was badly damaged by a 1991 volcanic eruption, which happened just as the U.S. military…

Northwestern players are expected to wear the uniforms during their Nov. 16 game, after which the players’ jerseys will be auctioned off to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project, said university spokesman Paul Kennedy. Both Northwestern and the company that designed the uniform have had to do some explaining since people observed online that the uniforms’ red…
