If you need a good laugh to ease into your Monday, we’ve got just what you need. A bunch of Air Force recruiters have taken the moniker R.W.A. — Recruiters With Attitude — and filmed a video parodying N.W.A.’s hip hop classic “Straight Outta Compton.” Their song, “Straight Outta Lackland,” cracks jokes about the life of a recruiter and the ways they sell potential recruits on life in the Air Force. And I’m no hip hop historian, but I’d be willing to bet this is the first rap song to drop a reference to the Air Force Song’s first line, “Off we go…

Dreamworks Pictures today released the first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film, “Bridge of Spies,” based on the true story of CIA U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers and his 1960 capture by the Soviet Union. In it, Tom Hanks portrays James Donovan, an insurance attorney recruited by the U.S. government to negotiate a spy swap for Powers with the Soviets. If the trailer is any indication, the movie looks like it will have some harrowing scenes behind the Iron Curtain in East Berlin, and the images of the shooting down of Powers look gripping. “Bridge of Spies” also co-stars Amy Ryan as Donovan’s…
The Air Force doesn’t get as much attention on the silver screen as the other military services, but Cameron Crowe — director of “Say Anything,” “Jerry Maguire,” and “Almost Famous” — is about to change that. The first trailer for his new film, “Aloha,” hit the web yesterday. The military-themed romantic comedy is about a washed-up defense contractor, played by Bradley Cooper of “American Sniper,” who travels to Hawaii in an attempt to salvage his career. While there, he reconnects with an old flame, played by Rachel McAdams, while becoming infatuated with an Air Force officer played by Emma Stone. The movie…

The ice bridge has to be constructed every other year so airmen can access range facilities, which are used in Red Flag- Alaska exercises, according to the Air Force. “We don’t always know what we have for ice, so it’s a little sketchy going across at first,” said Shawn Kelly, the 354th CES range maintenance foreman, said in an Air Force news story on the project. “Our first…

The Air Force Band on Tuesday delivered a surprise for hundreds of spectators at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center: An outstanding flash mob performance of “Greensleeves/What Child is This” and “Carol of the Bells.” As you can see in the video below, the performance began with a single oboist playing “Greensleeves” beneath the Space Shuttle Discovery, in the James S. McDonnell Space Hanger. She was soon joined by a cellist, another oboist, a harpist, and before long, the performance swelled to dozens of musicians throughout the hanger. The performance moved over to the main section of the hanger…

Boeing this week posted this video showing the QF-16 targeting drone in action for the first time as an aerial target at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico. The Air Force is in the process of converting older F-16s into optionally manned aircraft for target practice. Currently, the service mostly uses QF-4 Phantoms. The service plans to fly 210 of the aircraft, made up of the Block 15, 25 and 30 variants. This mission was the first time the aircraft was used as an aerial target for a test missile. The QF-4 made its first unmanned flight last fall in…
