The cover story from our Sept. 8 issue, “Crushing demands of job lead some Air Force recruiters to falsify reports,” is proving quite controversial. The command chief master sergeant of the Air Force Recruiting Service, Chief Master Sgt. The Ambassadors in Blue are looking for a few good airmen to join their team, according to Air Force Personnel Center officials. The 138-member unit is looking for some new blood among officers and enlisted members willing to make multi-year commitments to the team that performs up to 75 demonstrations a year in the U.S. and abroad, according to AFPC. Officers selected to the team serve a two-year assignment and enlisted members serve three or four. If you watch a game at the House that J.P. Losman Built, you might just be inspired enough to join the Air Force. That’s what the 313th Recruiting Squadron is banking on. The unit and the Buffalo Bills just announced a deal that will allow the service to advertise on signage at Ralph Wilson Stadium and on buffalobills.com. The squadron also will “activate” a tailgate party area on game days. The Department of Defense announced today that the the Air Force active and reserve components met their  recruiting and retention benchmarks fiscal year-to-date 2011, through May. The Air Force had 18,444 accessions, which was its fiscal year-to-date 2011 recruiting goals.  DoD said the service is on track to meet its fiscal year-to-date 2011 retention goals. The Air National Guard had 4,529 accessions, with a goal of 4,523; while the Air Force Reserve had 6,079 accessions, with a goal of 6,194. DoD said that both components are on target to achieve their fiscal year attrition goals.
