Air Force MMA Fighter Takes To Ring Oct. 8

One of the Air Forces’ own will attempt to kick, punch and grapple his way to another mixed martial arts victory Oct. 8.

Professional MMA fighter and airman, Tech Sgt. David “De Fierro” Perez, will battle against undefeated amateur MMA fighter Mike Young at this weekend’s Shogun Fights V, which will be held at the First Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Md.

Perez, who has been in the Air Force for more than 10 years, serves as the command transportation, safety and property manager for the new U.S. Cyber Command at Fort Meade.  When he’s not busy providing logistical support to eight U.S. Cyber Command directorates and multiple combat support agencies, he’s busy training for fights, overseeing a team of MMA fighters at Fort Meade known as Team Warfighter and raising money for Fallen Heroes/Wounded Warriors through endurance events. If that all weren’t enough, he’s a husband and father of three. His opponent is a former two-time Maryland state high school wrestling champ and current coach of the Dundalk Hawks Youth Wrestling Club.

The five-foot-nine Perez, who at 145 pounds fights in the featherweight division, is sponsored by the Air Force and  has been fighting competitively since 2006.  Perez hopes to improve his 7 and 1 fight record.
