‘If the engine quit, it don’t fly so good’


Retired Air Force pilot Victor Hernandez, 89, passes along that advice from Viera, Fla., where his small private plain experienced fuel problems last week.

Hernandez, who flew in World War II, had to make an emergency landing next to the reflecting pool at the Brevard County Government Complex. Read Florida Today’s story here and see the video below.

“When you fly an aircraft, you’re constantly thinking, ‘if something goes wrong, what am I going to do?’ And I mean this is something that is ingrained in you, in the pilot, especially light aircraft,” Hernandez said, according to news reports.

Hernandez said he’ll be 90 years old in August.
