Two Air Force Academy cadets said they fell back on their basic life support training when they witnessed a car crash around midnight Oct. 13. Sophomores Zach Morrow and John Kolbo were about five miles from the academy when they saw an SUV smash through a guard rail on I-25 and into a light pole, according to a news release. “The front of the SUV was completely crumpled in, the left tire was gone and the air bag had deployed,” Morrow was quoted as saying. They stopped to try to help. Morrow said he relied on Self Aid Buddy Care…
Military Religious Freedom Foundation President Mikey Weinstein got into a dustup with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly last night over the Air Force Academy’s controversial honor oath. As we reported yesterday, the academy is considering dropping or changing its honor oath over its concluding phrase, “so help me God,” which Weinstein says violates the constitutional guarantee against a religious test for office. The interview is worth a watch (and former “M*A*S*H” actor Mike Farrell, AKA B.J. Hunnicutt, who sits on MRFF’s board, even gets a mention here). Sound off below, or in our forums. Do you think Weinstein is right,…
The Air Force Academy Class of 1963 will dedicate a comrade’s long-lost ring when they gather Thursday to celebrate their 50th reunion. The class ring belonged to 1st Lt. Lawrence Golberg, were listed as missing in action for more than a decade. In 1977, their remains were found and returned to the U.S. Wynne was interred at the Air Force Academy. His class ring hadn’t been…

As we reported, the Air Force Academy had a minor emergency last week when it ran low on toilet paper and realized that the shutdown had furloughed the only people who knew who had the contract to replace it. And this weekend, Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update turned that development into a pretty good joke. Said co-anchor Seth Meyers: Because of the government shutdown, the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado is facing a toilet paper shortage. Giving new meaning to the phrase, “You’ve got a bogey on your tail.”
Many victims of sexual assault are afraid of retaliation if they come forward. While retaliation can be hard to prove, it is a very real risk. Air Force Times talked to three airmen who reported sexual assault and harassment and suffered the consequences. Also in this week’s edition: The partial shutdown of the federal government has hit the Air Force’s training and education programs. You can read which programs have been delayed and which have been stood down. The shutdown has promoted the Air Force to ground fighter squadrons for a second time in a year.
