The effects of budget cuts continue to radiate through the Air Force. Most recently, Air Combat Command has been forced to curtail inspections. In this week’s Air Force Times, you can read how ACC is trying to save money and what it means for airmen who must comply with operational readiness inspections. The budget cuts have also led to a new round of Date of Separation rollbacks, and that means the Air Force is on track to discharge more than 2,400 airmen by October. Air Force Times provides a breakdown of which airmen are being forced out by rank and…

Something as simple as a T-shirt has a military connection. And this year, it celebrates its 100th birthday. In 1913, the U.S. Navy was the first military branch to issue the T-shirt to be worn under uniforms. By WWII, it became standard issue for both the Navy and the Army. Labeled as “underclothing,” it eventually became acceptable for soldiers to remove their dress shirt while working in hot climates, wearing nothing but their uniform pants and a T-shirt. While the public didn’t love that idea at first, more and more people embraced T-shirts when new designs and colors emerged in…

The Air Force Academy’s men’s basketball team broke out some seldom-used uniforms last night for the team’s 71-56 win over UNLV. Here, guard Michael Lyons goes up for a layup during the first half. The Falcons are 15-8, 6-4 in the Mountain West Division so far. No word on if the uniforms are the new light weight ABUs, or if those haven’t yet made it to Colorado Springs.

The Air Force is cracking down on underage drinking by requiring trainees to submit to random breath tests at dormitories throughout the country. Airmen under 21 will have to blow into a Breathalyzer, which estimates your blood alcohol level. The move is meant to curb related problems, such as drunken driving, sexual assault and domestic violence. In other news, the fiscal 2013 clothing allowance includes the new ripstop airman battle uniform, which is meant to be lighter and cooler than traditional ABUs. You can see a complete breakdown of the 2013 men and women’s clothing bag in this week’s Air…

If this were an episode of “E! Fashion Police,” the Air Force would have (more than likely) been on the “worst dressed” list. Flashback: Air Force played Navy over the weekend, with the Midshipmen winning 28-21 in overtime against the Falcons. But what also caused a stir were the new uniforms Air Force was sporting: Specially designed uniforms, inspired by the Air Force’s B-2 Spirit and F-22 Raptor aircraft. The name on the back of the even-numbered jerseys had “F-22 Raptor” while the odd numbered jerseys had “B-2 Spirit” in place of the names. The helmet logo represented the top…
