1st Lt. Jasmine Alexander may not have pinned on a star, but she definitely won the crown. Alexander, an Air Force intelligence officer stationed at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, was crowned “Miss Black USA” on July 10 in a pageant at the University of the District of Columbia, Washington, D.C., according to The Gazette (Colorado Springs). She also recently won Miss Black Colorado USA 2014. The Miss Black U.S.A. Pageant and Scholarship Foundation, Inc., awarded Alexander, 26, a $5,000 scholarship and a trip to Africa, the newspaper said, and Alexander will  fulfill her pageant duties by promoting the Heart Truth campaign, which  raises awareness about…

Sixty-four new and expecting moms at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey took home a new crib, a rocker seat, an air purifier, a $100 gift card and a host of other gifts while hobnobbing with Kim, Kourtney and Khloé  Kardashian of tabloid fame July 7. The event was courtesy of Operation Shower, a nonprofit that has hosted dozens of baby showers for over 1,600 military moms and families since its founding in 2007. In his latest Airman to Airman video, Chief of Staff Gen. The Senate’s recent decision to break with tradition and end the 60-vote requirement for most Presidential nomination has not changed Lt. Gen. Susan Helms’ decision to retire. Helms was nominated to be the next vice commander of Space Command, but Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., blocked her nomination because Helms overturned the sexual assault conviction of Capt. Matthew Herrera at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., in February 2012. A well respected advocacy group for the families of service members who have died thanked Air Force Secretary nominee Deborah Lee James on Tuesday for her support. James is a board member of the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, which was founded by Bonnie Carroll, whose husband Army Brig. Gen. Tom Carroll was killed in a military plane crash in 1992.
