The first class to graduate from the new-and-improved Officer Training School marked a second celebration: they are the first class to graduate active duty, Reserve and Guard officer trainees at the same time. Ester McGowin Blake enlisted on the first day women were permitted to join the service — 65 years ago today, Smithsonian Magazine writes. Legendary NBC News correspondent and author Tom Brokaw will receive an honorary degree from Air University on Nov. 14, according to Maxwell Air Force Base Public Affairs. Bruce Murphy, vice president for academic affairs at AU,  said Brokaw represented journalists who have made a commitment to telling the military story  of American citizens to serving their country.
