The Department of the Air Force ranks 14th among the 19 largest agencies in this year’s “Best Places to Work in the Federal Government” list released today. According to the agency list – indexed by scores that measure overall performance related to employee satisfaction and commitment – the Air Force’s ranking fell by 4.30 points and from 13th place in last year’s ranking. Something as simple as a T-shirt has a military connection. And this year, it celebrates its 100th birthday. In 1913, the U.S. Navy was the first military branch to issue the T-shirt to be worn under uniforms. By WWII, it became standard issue for both the Navy and the Army. Labeled as “underclothing,” it eventually became acceptable for soldiers to remove their dress shirt while working in hot climates, wearing nothing but their uniform pants and a T-shirt. Sen. John McCain has a new daughter-in-law. And she’s an Air Force reserve captain. People Magazine reports that the senator’s son, Jack, married Renee Swift over the weekend in San Francisco. Swift, 29, met Lt. McCain, 27, in Guam, where he serves as a helicopter pilot in the Navy. According to Swift’s LinkedIn, she is the chief financial officer in the 36th Medical Group at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. Americans believe the Air Force is third-most important branch of the military, trailing the Army and Marine Corps, according to a recent national poll. Seventeen percent of respondents listed the Air Force as “most important to our national defense,” Gallup announced June 21. The Army was seen as the most important (25 percent), followed by the Marines (24 percent), the Navy (11 percent) and the Coast Guard (3 percent). Sixteen percent believed the branches were the same. Gallup interviewed 1,020 adults representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The margin of error was 5 percent. The findings represent…
